What it does

1Edit takes a photo of a person and turns it into a graphic. Apple's Vision framework separates you from your background, the app draws a look behind you, and you tune it until it's right. Pick a look, move a few sliders, clean up the edges with a pen, export.

It's a native SwiftUI app for iPhone and iPad, iOS 17 and up. Everything runs on the device.

Start with a photo

Pick one from your library or take one with the camera. That's the whole setup step.

The cutout

Apple's on-device Vision framework finds the person and lifts them off the background. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is sent anywhere, and no network request is made to do it. It happens on your phone, in the time it takes to load the picture.

The looks grid

A grid of graphic looks, each drawn behind you so you sit in front of the artwork rather than on top of it. Two of the entries are scenes instead: a white postcard that frames your picture like a print, and a perspective swap that places you inside the shot from another angle.

Tune

Five sliders shape the result: size, opacity, scatter, grain, and motion. A separate Motion tab handles the movement on its own, so you can get the still right first and then decide how much it should move.

Fix

The pen for retouching the cutout. Paint back a shoulder the mask clipped, or erase a piece of background that came along with you. Brush size is adjustable, and every stroke has undo and redo behind it.

Your library

Saved edits sit on the home screen. Each one keeps its look, its slider values, its brush size, and the mask you painted, so you can reopen it later and keep going.

Export

Three ways out, all written to your own Photos library:

Still — a full-resolution PNG
Motion — a 6-second H.264 video
Live Photo — a still with a paired 3-second video
